We are proud to announce the second international band confirmed for the 2027 Birmingham International Tattoo – Fanfare Korps Nationale Reserve, one of the four Military Bands of the Royal Netherlands Army.
Established in 1987 as a drum corps, FKNR has continually evolved—first into a marching band and later into a full fanfare band. This distinctly Dutch style combines the power of a brass band with the rich addition of flugelhorns and saxophones, creating a unique and versatile sound. Today, the ensemble brings together more than 50 highly trained musicians, each balancing their role as a military performer with civilian careers.
Based in Amersfoort, at the heart of the Netherlands, FKNR regularly performs at events for the National Reserve Corps, the Royal Netherlands Army, and the Dutch Ministry of Defence. Their repertoire spans traditional military marches and fanfare compositions, alongside dynamic arrangements of contemporary and popular music.
Beyond the full band, FKNR also features a range of smaller ensembles. From brass groups providing music for commemorations and funerals to their lively combo performing across genres at receptions and formal occasions, their versatility is a hallmark of their excellence.
The year 2027 marks FKNR’s 40th anniversary, making their appearance in Birmingham an especially meaningful celebration.
A parade like no other, the Birmingham International Tattoo returns next February for an unforgettable weekend of spectacle and pageantry. Audiences can expect massed international bands, pipes and drums, thrilling field gun racing, energetic flyball, talented dancers, and a breathtaking grand finale featuring over 1,000 performers. More exciting announcements are still to come.
