The Birmingham International Tattoo
National pride, local heart, unforgettable show!

Started in 1989, the Birmingham International Tattoo is the UK's biggest indoor tattoo (a type of military tournament) bringing together annually a distinctive blend of military tradition, national pride, and community engagement, underscored by a commitment to charitable causes.

Held annually at bp pulse LIVE, the new name for Resorts World Arena, at the NEC Birmingham, the Tattoo showcases a rich tapestry of performances, including massed marching bands, pipes and drums, field gun racing, dog displays, and dance teams. The Spectacular Grand Finale features over 1,000 performers, culminating in a patriotic display of "Land of Hope and Glory," "The Evening Hymn," and "The Lone Piper," reinforcing themes of national pride and remembrance.

Community and charitable engagement
A cornerstone of the Tattoo is its dedication to supporting veterans and serving troops. The event has raised substantial funds for charities including Royal Star & Garter and Troop Aid, with over £140,000 raised for Royal Star & Garter. These funds are directed towards providing care for veterans with disabilities or dementia.

For the 2026 Tattoo peformances, the organisers have partnered with the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund to donate £1 for every ticket sold to the charity. In addition, the RAF Benevolent Fund will join the two existing Tattoo charities – Royal Star & Garter and Troop Aid – to raise funds at the two performances through a retiring collection and contribution from each souvenir programme sold. Additionally, the Tattoo features the Parade of Massed Standards, with over 100 standard bearers representing various veterans' associations, emphasizing the event's commitment to honouring and showcasing those who have served.

Youth and Cadet Involvement
The event also highlights youth participation, with cadets from the Sea Cadets, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, and Army Cadet Force plus the National Marching Band, contributing to the Opening Ceremony and Spectacular Grand Finale. Dancers from eleven youth dance schools also take part and their inclusion underscores the Tattoo's role in fostering community engagement and providing young people with opportunities to showcase their talents alongside the international performers.

The Birmingham International Tattoo combines military tradition with a strong emphasis on community involvement and charitable support. Through its performances and philanthropic efforts, the Tattoo has established itself as a significant cultural event that honours the past while engaging future generations.
